C&D Recycling

BACKGROUND
The City has implemented a Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste Recycling Program to divert C&D material from California landfills.  C&D material typically consists of waste generated during construction, renovation, or demolition of buildings, pavements, or other structures. Assembly Bill 939 and the California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen) require “covered” projects in the City to divert 65% of waste generated.

“Covered” projects consist of:

  • The planning, design, operation, construction, use and occupancy of every newly constructed building or structure.
  • Additions and alterations to existing buildings that increase the building’s conditioned area, interior volume, or size.

HOW TO COMPLY
Each applicant for a building permit for any “covered" project shall submit a C&D Materials Management Plan (C&DMMP). Please visit the Community & Economic Development page to learn more.
